Postby synth_ollie » Thu Apr 17, 2008 12:53 pm

sometimes Im thinking of putting something more useful in the place of the gate delays in my 172´s, I dont think I have ever used them....

Hello

Oh they are might favourite bit of the 172 . . .

You can use them to create cheap MIDI sync from
click track on computer multitrack or DAW.

or

The gate delay is great to do Giorgio Moroder type
basslines, where the delayed gate can trigger a
second EG/VCA/OSC to give an octave repeat
note [disco style !]
This in effect can give you 16 notes out of 8 steps
from a sequencer [if you are using 2 x EG/VCA/OSC]
[hope that makes sense]

I use them to convert external trigger sources into gates and to also double up gate signals as ryk described.

I just swapped mine for a 150 module, and I didn't really use them much.

There's still a lot of nice uses for it. One is some sort of a waveshaping. You can chop off half of the cycle with it replace it with another. This needs two gate delays.

hmmm, since the gatedelay is in the m-172,
did you swap a 172 for a 150 or what ?????

Damned, I had a brain fart! :P I wrote the previous thinking that you were talking about the 173 signal gate module.

For the gate delay in 172 I actually find use. It's always good to have a possibility to extract a pulse from any signal. I don't use the delay much, but the threshold & gate length I do use.

If you don't want to keep it.. I'd build a kick-ass LFO in place of it to control the phaser & delay.

ok I see :)

(if someone else has a 173 signal gate that they dont use -SELL IT TO ME ! - or I´ll give you another module for it, or I´ll make some 100m cirquitbending for you...or... )
